Oriflame Wellness: Products
The company has launched 3 wellness products in India, to start with, in its Oriflame Wellness range. The target segments are weight (loss or maintenance) and general health management.
Oriflame Wellness Nutrishake
Made available in three flavors—natural mango-banana, natural strawberry, natural vanilla—it has a GI of 43, and hence, classified as low GI. It is safe for diabetic patients, but remember, diabetics should not give up on regular medicines. Best would be to consult your doctor first.
My comment: Good as a snack, or an after-breakfast drink. It is tasty.
I would rate this product 3/5 (overall effect on weight and health).
Oriflame Wellness Nutrisoup
A perfect blend of protein, carbohydrate, saturated fat, unsaturated fat, fiber and sodium, the ingredients used include pea protein, potato protein, soy protein, tomato powder, rapeseed oil and dried basil.
Made available in one single flavor—natural tomato-basil—for the time being, it is a hot and healthy snack, or part of a meal, for the whole family.
My comment: It is okay with a slight bland taste. Drinking soups in summer when temp soars above 40 degree Celsius, especially in northern parts of India, requires a second thought.
I would rate this product 2.7/5 (overall effect on weight and health).
Oriflame Wellness Omega 3
Free from heavy metals and toxins, each Omega 3 capsule contains highly purified natural fish oil providing the beneficial long chain fatty acids EPA and DHA. It is good for the heart, joints, brain, vision and skin.
My comment: Excellent product. I have had Omega 3 of quite a few international companies, but I must admit that nothing matches Oriflame Wellness Omega 3! There is no doubt about it.
I would rate this product 4.9/5 (on overall health management)
Oriflame Wellness: Recommendation for a healthy lifestyle
The healthy lifestyle list provided by the company is quite big (there are too many dos and donts) and includes (with my comments):
- eating 3 meals and 2 snacks daily (it is not always possible)
- steam, boil or oven-bake your food (!!!)
- avoid sweet and high fat food products, sauces and dishes (correct)
- power walk for 60 minutes (not possible for everyone)
- exercise cardio for minimum 30 minutes—3 times a week (okay)
- avoid sitting down for long periods of time (what about people who are working and has 8 hour sitting job?)
- obtain sufficient sleep for normal appetite regulation (a must!)
- prevent and manage stress (okay)
- avoid emotional eating (it is easier said than done!)
- no smoking (okay)
- avoid caffeine (I wonder why!!!!)
- control on alcohol intake (well, it can be done)
Oriflame Wellness: My strong opinion
I am deeply involved in the sports, fitness and health industry for more 40 years. As such, I have tried out many weight loss, weight gain, weight maintenance, diets and other health management supplements and replacements. Some had been excellent, some had been okay and some failed to produce effective results.
Time and again I have noticed that many international products do not give desired results to the Indians, one of the major reasons being varied climate and weather conditions.
Where the Oriflame Wellness products costs are concerned, they are quite on the higher side. I feel to tap the Indian market where Herbalife weight management products are the current players, the company should have kept a lower price range, to start with. It would fall heavily on the pocket of the middle class if they have to use the products on a daily basis.
After a weight loss trial for 2 months, I would say Oriflame Wellness products would not effectively work on people who spend hours working hard in the gym daily. This is the reason why the products did not have much effect on me, except for energizing me a little at times. For hard gymers and sports people, the company needs to come out with an affordable Sports Range in India ASAP.
Oriflame Wellness product guide, on page 10, says, “Swedish science meets Swedish nature.” Well, what about Indian nature? Hence, my question to the company is, “When will “Swedish science meet Indian nature?”
I wish Oriflame Wellness all the best in its future ventures!
